Remarkable adventure

We went up to the remarkables. Having seen how low the cloud was, I abandoned my plans for doing the Grand Traverse.

wetness, mud slides and sand flies

Heading South. Seals were ok. Pancake rocks were pretty average. But hey! There are heaps of sand flies, torrential rain and yes, the odd land slide across the road or 4. We stopped 13km north of franz joseph glacia.it was a fairly nice camp site near a lake and with heaps of sand flies. Still the great toilets were only a 200m walk away. So. The next day we were headed for a camp site near haast pass where I was to do a walk. Then we came across a small issue. We crossed thos once the water subsided only to find a land slide across the road. Due to the lack of folks looking back at is from the other side, we figured that this one was the least of the issues. We set up camp a few kilometers back where wr got in early. Soon people started piling in if for no other reason than the good toilets. This was perhaps outlr cosiest camp but it was infested with sand flies. That evening I decided to do a hike / run. Cherry picking

Picking cherries on the way back west. We also stopped in at a couple of wineries and a brewery.   There were so many rows of nice looking cherries that we only managed to move about 20 meters before we were done. It was a 6kg bucket if filled but we decided not to do that. I guessed that we had picked about 620g. Shannon guessed 720g. The right answer (and closest to mine) was 570g.   When we got to Westport, we downed the cherries and they were damn good. Oh, and the Rose B (the Rose from the 2nd winery) was also very easy to drink. Oh and the beers from the Moa brewery. The most amazing thing about the day was that the temperature gauge on the car was up to 32 degrees. Actually hotter than Brisbane. I hope that all of the snow isn't melted from the tops of the mountains down south. I want to try out the crampons and ice axe.
